Susan Marie Aakre, 75, of Kihei, Maui and Grand Rapids, Minnesota, was called home to her Lord and Savior. She passed away on January 23, 2024, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on July 13, 1948, to Obert and Agnes O. (Nellis) Aakre in Minneapoli­s, Minnesota.

Susan grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and graduated from Grand Rapids Senior High, Class of 1966. She left Grand Rapids right after High School to join the Army in 1967. Susan is a Veteran of the United States Army, she served with honor at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Susan gave birth to her only child Andrea in Washington D.C. then a few years later Susan moved back to Grand Rapids, Minnesota with her daughter Andrea to be near her family. Susan was an amazing strong-willed woman, after suffering a stroke stemming from an aneurysm and three years hospitaliz­ation, Susan raised her daughter on her own. She had a home built in Grand Rapids, where she lived a very independen­t and productive life while paralyzed, still doing everything herself. Susan moved to Hawaii the island of Maui, in June 2015 to be near her daughter Andrea and grandson Adrian, with the help of two special personal care attendants she continued to live independen­tly and enjoyed Maui. Always in good cheer with a gregarious sense of humor. Susan had a very strong faith in God throughout the years as she believed anything was possible with God, she believed where there was a will there was a way, she very much enjoyed attending Church and Bible Study, and the years on Maui she was a member at Hope Chapel in Kihei.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and her brother’s son, her nephew, Jimmie Aakre. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea L. Castroman (Daniel H. Owan); grandson, Adrian M. Castroman; and brother, Walter (Charlene) Aakre.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. and Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Hope Chapel, 300 E Welakahao Rd, Kihei, HI 96753. Refreshmen­ts will follow the service.

Burial at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku at 2 p.m.
