Maui Strong support group to meet Feb. 28 Jazz Maui concerts set for next week T’ai chi ch’uan course offered

National Alliance on Mental Illness Hawaii and Mental Health America of Hawaii will host a Maui

The Jazz Maui 2024 Maui Music Series will present the Brigham Young University-Hawaii Studio Orchestra in three free concerts featuring “The Happiest Songs on Earth” at 6 p.m. on Feb. 29 at the Royal Lahaina Resort, March 1 at Queen Kaahumanu Center and March 2 at King Kekaulike High School.

A 10-week beginner t’ai chi ch’uan course will be offered from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning March 5 at the Kula Dojo.

The course will be taught by certified instructor­s Jan Osterneck and John Rivera. T’ai chi ch’uan is known to improve concentrat­ion, strengthen the mind/body connection and enhance health and well-being.

Volunteers sought for March 9 beach cleanup

The Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute is seeking volunteers for a beach cleanup event from 9 to 11 a.m. on March 9, at Sugar Beach in Kihei.

Participan­ts will meet at the Kealia Boardwalk, where they will be provided with reusable gloves, rubbish receptacle­s and marine debris data collection sheets. The citizen science data collected from the cleanup will contribute to the Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute’s annual marine debris count.
