Brush fire burns near Nakalele Point
A brush fire near the parking area for the Nakalele Point blowhole on the northwest side of the island burned 2 acres Wednesday before being doused, fire officials said.
Firefighters got the call at 10:50 a.m and a Napili crew was on scene at 11:12 a.m. The fire was burning about 100 yards on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway, said Fire Services Chief Ed Taomoto.
Air One and a tanker from Lahaina helped battle the fire, which was contained at 12:22 p.m. and extinguished at 3 p.m., he said.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, said Taomoto.
Low income seniors may be eligible for fresh produce through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program at the Upcountry Farmers Market.
In the program administered through Maui Economic Opportunity, qualified seniors will receive $50 worth of coupons to exchange for fresh, unprocessed locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from the market, open 7 to 11 a.m. Saturdays at the Kula Malu Town Center.
The coupons must be used by Sept. 30.
