Bud­dhists plan joint ser­vice

Mem­bers and friends of Kahu­lui, Wailuku and La­haina Jodo mis­sions will gather at 9:30 a.m. Sun­day at La­haina Jodo Mis­sion, 12 Ala Moana St., for the an­nual Jodo Bud­dhist joint ser­vice and fel­low­ship gath­er­ing.

Jodo Bud­dhist prac­tice Nen­butsu med­i­ta­tion, or recit­ing the mantra “Namu Amida Butsu,” ex­press­ing grat­i­tude to the Bud­dha and to their an­ces­tors. At this ser­vice, a spe­cial prayer will be of­fered for the Gan­nen­mono, or first group of Ja­panese im­mi­grants to come to Hawaii 150 years ago.

Res­i­dent min­is­ter of La­haina Jodo Mis­sion, the Rev. Gen­sho Hara, will de­liver the dharma mes­sage.
