Richter, Tabisola win at Kauai Se­nior Pick­le­ball Games

Todd Richter of Pukalani and By­ron Tabisola of Kahu­lui each picked up wins at the Hawaii State Games Se­nior Pick­le­ball Tour­na­ment, held Sept. 28-30 in Kala­heo, Kauai.

Richter and team­mate Kevin Teves of the Big Is­land won the 60-64 age group in men’s dou­bles. They de­feated Dean Fu­jikawa and Philip Ba­clayon 10-12, 11-6, 11-9 in the fi­nal.

Richter also placed third in mixed dou­bles. He and part­ner Patti Koyama of Oahu lost to even­tual cham­pi­ons Veron­ica Wilkie and Ron Olen 11-2, 11-4 in the loser’s bracket fi­nal — Richter and Koyama had de­feated Wilkie and Olen in the quar­ter­fi­nals.

Tabisola and Mark Howard of Kauai won the 50-54 men’s dou­bles ti­tle as the only pair in the di­vi­sion. They com­peted against 55-59 play­ers.

Tabisola also teamed with Janet Nathanson of Kauai to claim the bronze in 50-54 mixed dou­bles. They went 2-4 in round-robin play.

Both Richter and Tabisola qual­i­fied for the Na­tional Se­nior Games in Al­bu­querque, N.M., next sum­mer.
