Sabers sweep Bears in MIL D-I tournament play-in
The Maui High School girls volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Maui Interscholastic League Division I tournament with a sweep of Baldwin on Thursday night at Shine Matsui Athletic Center in Kahului.
The Sabers, the No. 4 seed, won 25-16, 25-16, 26-24 over the fifth-seeded Bears.
Maui High improved to 4-9 and will face top-seeded King Kekaulike (12-0) on Monday at Lahainaluna.
Sienna Decambra had 12 kills, Deasha Soares had seven digs and three aces, and Tia Caulford had five digs and an ace for Baldwin, which ends the season at 2-11.
Statistics for the Sabers were not reported.
At Hoolehua, the Farmers improved to 9-2 with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 win over the Hawks (5-5).
Statistics for Molokai were not reported.
Ramona Borchers had six kills and 15 digs for Haleakala Waldorf. Mileina Sniffen posted 58 digs, Sekaya Verber had four kills and 27 digs, Izabelle Palmore had four kills and Samantha Spork added 11 assists.
