After years of blowing off family gatherings, Whitney Kennison (Tiya Sircar) takes a long-overdue break from her busy job as a New York event planner to spend Christmas in Chicago with her Grandma Frances (Diane Ladd). All is going well until Whitney accidentally throws out a cherished box of ornaments that are family heirlooms. Frances decides to turn the mishap into a teachable moment, though, sending her granddaughter on a whirlwind yuletide scavenger hunt to recover the lost family treasures. Ed Ruttle also stars.
6 PM on HBO Movie: Icebox
Written and directed by Daniel Sawka, this 2018 feature-length adaptation of a 2016 film short of the same title revolves around Oscar (Anthony Gonzalez), a 10-year-old boy from Honduras who is forced to flee his native country and seek asylum in the United States, only to get trapped in the maze of the U.S. immigration system. When he tries to reach an uncle in Arizona, the boy is captured by Border Patrol and thrown into the Icebox, a detention center for immigrant kids.
8 PM on KHNL13.1 Midnight, Texas
Creek (guest star Sarah Ramos), the mortal girl next door who abandoned her lover Manfred (Francois Arnaud) when all the local occult weirdness just got too much for a “normal” gal to handle, returns to Midnight in the new episode “No More Mr. Nice Kai.” Elsewhere, Walker (Josh Kelly) the demon hunter inevitably causes friction in the relationship of Joe and Chuy (Jason Lewis, Bernardo Saracino), while Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley) starts down a dark path in order to protect Bobo (Dylan Bruce).
