Rum­blings at the old Maui Lu

Grad­ing work is on­go­ing at the old Maui Lu Re­sort in Ki­hei, which will re­port­edly be­come a 388-unit Hil­ton Grand Va­ca­tions Time­share Re­sort. When the old re­sort, which has its roots in the 1950s, was torn down in 2015, the de­vel­op­ers said that the first phase of the three-phase $300 mil­lion project would be com­pleted in 2017. How­ever, lit­tle work was done on the 28-acre site in north Ki­hei un­til re­cently. This photo was taken on Nov. 30. Hil­ton Grand Va­ca­tions spokes­woman Megumi Haub­ner on Wed­nes­day did not of­fer more de­tails about the on-site work, adding, “We should have more in­for­ma­tion to share in the com­ing weeks.”
