WAILUKU — Bail was reduced to $15,000 Friday for a Molokai man who was arrested on gun and drug charges.

John Habon, 50, of Kaunakakai has pleaded not guilty to second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, eight counts of prohibited possession of a firearm or ammunition and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

At Friday’s court hearing, Habon asked to be released from jail on supervision.

Deputy Public Defender Zach Raidmae said Habon’s residence was verified by information filed in court to support the charges. Habon called police to report someone was peeking into his windows Oct. 15 and invited responding officers into his house, where police reported finding marijuana and guns, Raidmae said.

The complaint against Habon alleges he had 50 or more marijuana plants, two rifles and ammunition.

Because of a court protective order against him, Habon is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, said Deputy Prosecutor Annalisa Bernard Lee.

She asked that Habon’s bail remain at $25,000.

“It is a danger to the community when there is a court order that’s not being followed that involves weapons,” Bernard Lee said.

Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo reduced Habon’s bail to $15,000.

A Jan. 7 pretrial conference is set.
