Cockfight raid nets 2 arrests in Puunene
Two men were arrested Saturday evening when police broke up a cockfight near the Hawaiian Cement quarry off Kaimana Road in Puunene.
Police said about 100 people were watching the cockfight. The two men were each seen pitting a gamecock that was fitted with a cockfighting weapon, police said.
The men were identified as Shannon Mollena, 44, of Wailuku and Marino Oliveros, 50, of Kahului. Both were charged with second-degree cruelty to animals and possession of a gambling device.
Their bail was set at $400 each.
