Canadian hikers go crater exploring
Philippe Meilleur and Mariane Pon of Quebec City, Quebec, wear broad smiles last week on Haleakala National Park’s Keonehe‘ehe‘e (Sliding Sands) Trail as they embark on a two-day hike. The couple said Haleakala’s volcanic landscape reminded them of some of the sights they experienced while hiking in Iceland. “It is wonderful,” Pon said. They planned to camp for the night at Holua and exit the crater Thursday by way of the switchbacks of Halemau‘u Trail.
