Walk-up vaccine clinic offered today only in Kihei

Maui Health is offering walk-up registration and vaccination at its Kihei clinic today only for Phase 1b residents, with plans to expand vaccinations to people ages 70 and older starting Monday at all its vaccine clinic locations.

The walk-up clinic, located at the Kaiser Permanente clinic in the Azeka Shopping Center on South Kihei Road, will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registrations and vaccines will be given out on a first-come, firstserved basis, with the goal of helping kupuna who may not have access to a computer or need assistance setting up an email and to vaccinate as many qualified kupuna as possible, Maui Health said. The clinic will continue as long as supplies last.

“We know that there still may be some kupuna who want to be vaccinated but just don’t know how to get one,” said Mike Rembis, CEO of Maui Health. “We want to make it as easy as possible for this group. They just need to show up with their ID and our staff will walk them through the process from start to finish, including vaccinating them on the spot. No appointment needed as long as they qualify.”

Residents must bring a valid ID to verify their date of birth and insurance card, though participants are not required to have insurance and will not be charged to receive the vaccine, Maui Health said.

Phase 1b includes frontline essential workers and adults ages 75 and older. The state Department of Health announced this week that it would open vaccinations to people ages 70 and older starting on Monday.

Maui Health is continuing to vaccinate people in the top priority phases. Those under 70 years of age and who qualify as Phase 1a health care workers or Phase 1b essential workers can sign up for a vaccine appointment at mauihealth .org/covidvaccine. They must fill out a vaccine health record form to verify they qualify under the phases.
