WAILUKU — Police arrested a woman who was suspected of being intoxicated when she allegedly started two vehicles and tried to start a third Monday morning at a rental company in Kaanapali.

Savannah Weber, 26, was charged with two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, violation of a public health emergency rule, DUI, driving after her license was revoked for DUI and having an open liquor container in a vehicle.

She was arrested at about 10 a.m. Monday when police were called to Aloha Motorsports at 30 Halawai Drive.

According to a declaration filed in court to support the charges, Weber entered and started two Polaris Slingshot three-wheelers and tried to start a third similar vehicle while they were parked fronting the business with the keys in the center consoles. Employees stopped her from driving away before police were called.

Police reported finding Weber not wearing a mask and with an open bottle of vodka in her bag. Police said she was slurring and smelled of alcohol.

Police had set bail for Weber at $5,450.

During her initial appearance Tuesday in Lahaina District Court, convening in Wailuku, the prosecution asked for bail to be reduced to $2,000.

“We believe that bail is necessary, as she does pose a danger to the community by attempting to not just operate her own vehicle but attempting to take other vehicles belonging to other people while allegedly intoxicated and while she should not be operating a vehicle at all,” said Deputy Prosecutor Byron Fujieda.

He said Weber has prior convictions for contempt of court, failure to appear, inattention to driving, criminal trespassing and criminal property damage.

Deputy Public Defender Gustavo Gonzalez asked for Weber to be released on supervision. He said she could be subjected to conditions, including not driving.

In reducing Weber’s bail to $2,000, Judge Michelle Drewyer said, “I’m not confident that she’s going to abide by any of the court orders.”

Weber was ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs and to report for random drug testing. She was ordered to stay away from Aloha Motorsports.
