Woman accused of attacking man at Sugar Cane Train station

-

WAILUKU — A homeless woman was arrested Sunday night when she allegedly assaulted a man at the Sugar Cane Train station in Lahaina.

Ashlee Eade, 37, was charged with second-degree assault.

During her initial appearance Tuesday in Lahaina District Court, convening in Wailuku, Deputy Prosecutor Peter Hanano asked for bail to remain at $1,000 for Eade.

He said a 61-year-old man was at the train station on Limahana Place at 10:10 p.m. when Eade approached and began to yell at the man about an incident involving a leaf blower. Then she allegedly attacked the man by hitting him several times and biting him on his right index finger, Hanano said.

He said the man suffered abrasions and lacerations on his left forearm and a small cut on his index finger. He was treated by medics, according to a declaration filed in court to support the charge.

Eade is homeless and unemployed and has been in the state for about a year, Hanano said.

He said she has no criminal convictions but has been arrested for harassment and abuse.

Deputy Public Defender Andres Tobar asked for Eade to be released on supervision. He said she reported being on Maui for several years and had been released on her own recognizance in a pending case.

Eade is facing a felony assault charge because the victim is age 60 or older.

Judge Blaine Kobayashi granted the prosecution’s request to maintain bail. Eade was ordered to have no contact with the victim and to stay away from the train station. She also was ordered not to consume or possess alcohol or illegal drugs.
