County offers family-friendly events to honor Parks month

To celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month in July, the Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation will be offering free, family-friendly events on Maui, Molokai and Lanai that include outdoor movies and activities.

Movie nights will be held Fridays. For Maui, movies start at sunset and will be held at Eddie Tam Memorial Center, Friday; Kamaole III on July 14; War Memorial Stadium Complex on July 21; and Lahaina Civic Center on July 28.

Maui activities include Beginner’s Pickleball Clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. today at War Memorial Complex Stadium tennis courts and Adaptive Archery at Eddie Tam gym at 9 a.m. to noon on July 14.

For Molokai, movies start at 7 p.m. and will be held at Kualapu‘u on Friday,

Mitchell Pauole on July 14, Maunaloa on July 21, and Kilohana on July 28.

On Lanai, a movie will be shown after sunset at Lana‘i Little League Field on July 28.

Also, the Lana‘i Community Skate Jam will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 20 at Lanai Gymnasium and Tennis Courts parking lot.

National Parks and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation & Parks Associatio­n that promotes building strong, vibrant and resilient communitie­s through parks and recreation. Parks and recreation agencies across the country are recognizin­g the month with summer programs, events and celebratio­ns.
