NEW YORK—Bob Edwards, the news anchor many Americans woke up to as founding host of National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” for nearly a quarter-century, has died.

NPR said he died Saturday at age 76, but it had no other details. Edwards joined NPR in 1974, and was the founding voice on “Morning Edition” in 1979.

His authoritative baritone made many listeners feel he was older than he was.

For 12 years, his interviews with sportscasting legend Red Barber were a regular feature, and they provided the foundation for Edwards’ book “Friday with Red: A Radio Friendship.”

He was pulled from “Morning Edition” in 2004 just before celebrating a quarter-century on the show, a move that led some listeners to protest. Beyoncé’s new songs will arrive in March

Beyoncé’s new songs will arrive in March

LOS ANGELES—Beyoncé is back with two new country tracks—“Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.”

After a Verizon commercial starring Beyoncé aired during the Super Bowl ended with the superstar saying “They ready, drop the new music,” the question became—was she serious?

Later, a cryptic Instagram video with country iconography appeared on her page, teasing “act ii” on March 29. (Beyoncé’s 2022 album “Renaissance” is frequently referred to as “Act I: Renaissance.”)

Then two new country songs dropped—“Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages.” “This ain’t Texas / Ain’t no hold ’em / So lay your cards down down down,” she sings in a Southern twang on the first.

Boy George now in musicals on Broadway

NEW YORK—Boy George, the singer-songwriter and beating heart of the iconic band Culture Club, is these days playing the role of the impresario in the Tony-Award winning “Moulin Rouge” until May 12.

The jukebox musical is a stage adaptation of director Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 film of the same name starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

It’s packed with pop tunes by Katy Perry, the Rolling Stones and Elton John.

Boy George says the show proves “pop music works in a theatrical space and theatrical music works in a pop space.”

He calls “Moulin Rouge” “a slap of joy.”
