Rangers 3B Jung to miss 8-10 weeks after wrist surgery

-

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung will miss eight to 10 weeks after having surgery on his broken right wrist.

Jung originally was projected to miss about six weeks but the team said

Wednesday the operation in Phoenix was more complicated than expected.

Jung was hurt when he was hit by a pitch from Tampa Bay reliever Phil Maton on a swinging strike in the ninth inning of the Rangers’ 9-3 win on Monday night. He was placed on the 10day injured list and infielder Justin Foscus was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Jung hit .266 with 23 home runs and a .781 OPS last season, finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting despite missing time with a broken left thumb. He batted .308 with an .867 OPS in the postseason for the World Series champions.

METS: The New York Mets have agreed to a contract with veteran starter Julio Teheran, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Teheran gets a $2.5 million salary on a one-year contract and can earn another $450,000 in performance bonuses, a different person familiar with the deal said.

Both people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the contract was subject to a successful physical and no announcement had been made.

Teheran, a longtime Mets nemesis with rival Atlanta, spent spring training with Baltimore. The right-hander opted out of his minor league deal with the Orioles late last month when he didn’t make their opening-day major league roster.

The 33-year-old Teheran, a two-time All-Star, returned to the majors last year following an extended absence and went 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA in 11 starts and three relief appearances for NL Central champion Milwaukee. He is 81-82 with a 3.83 ERA in 12 big league seasons with the Braves, Angels, Tigers and Brewers. He was an All-Star with Atlanta in 2014 and 2016.

BREWERS: Milwaukee Brewers reliever Trevor Megill has gone on the seven-day concussion list after passing out while recovering from an apparent case of food poisoning.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that Megill suffered from food poisoning on Saturday during the team’s three-game road series with the New York Mets. The concussion occurred after the 6-foot-8 right-hander had returned to Milwaukee and banged his head on the ground after fainting.

“He ended up fainting in a phone store … fainted, fell on the ground, hit his head,” Murphy said. “When he came to, he called our people and let them know. We evaluated him the next morning, and it was a concussion.”

Megill’s move to the concussion list was retroactive to Sunday.

“This one’s scary,” Murphy said. “I guess he hadn’t had much in his system.”

Megill, 30, has pitched in two games and worked two scoreless innings this season. He went 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 31 appearances for the Brewers last year while striking out 52 in 34 2/3 innings.

“He’s doing OK,” Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said. “We want to be cautious with those types of things, for sure.”
