Baldwin baseball downs Maui High, 5-2; Bears at 7-2 on year

-

The Baldwin High School baseball team salvaged a crucial win Saturday in the finale of its threegame set with Maui High at Maehara Stadium.

With the 5-2 victory, the Bears improved to 7-2 in Maui Interscholastic League Division I play, while the Sabers fell to 5-1 in the 12-game regular season.

Maui High won the first two games of the crosstown series Thursday and Friday with dramatic extra-inning victories.

Freshman Jayden Perry-Waikiki tossed complete-game five-hitter for the Bears, finishing with nine strikeouts, no walks and two hit batsmen. Baldwin overcame a 2-1 deficit with four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

In the first two MIL D-I games on Saturday, Kamehameha Maui improved to 5-1 with 10-7 and 12-0 wins over Lahainaluna (09). The second game of that series was postponed Friday by an auto accident that delayed the Lunas from reaching the stadium on time.
