Dancers come to MTC
Mendocino Dance Project brings an alloriginal show, “Spectator,” to the Mendocino Theatre Company stage this month. “Spectator” is an authentic and energetic dance show about the body and how it behaves under a variety of circumstances. It explores the many ways people witness each other and what changes occur in one’s physicality and emotional state with everchanging shifts in the environment.
Mendocino Dance Project will present “Spectator” at the Mendocino Theatre Company on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at mendocinotheatre.org or by calling the box office at 707-937-4477.
Art from Native Printmakers
This new traveling exhibition from Exhibit Envoy will be at the Grace Hudson Museum from Saturday, Jan. 18 through Sunday, May 10. “Metaphor, Myth, and Politics: Art from Native Printmakers” features 36 contemporary works on paper by 29 Native and Indigenous artists, all drawn from the collections of the C.N. Gorman Museum at UC Davis.
Artworks include recent prints by Kenojuak Ashevak (Inuit), Marwin Begaye (Navajo), Nicholas Galani (Tlingit/ Aleut), Wendy Red Star Crow), C. Maxx Stevens (Seminole/Muscogee), Melanie Yazzie (Diné ), and 23 more printmakers from across the globe.
Through their inventive and vibrant works, the artists in this exhibition reveal the diverse points of view and styles of art found in the world of contemporary Native printmaking. The Grace Hudson Museum is located at 421 S. Main St., Ukiah. For information, call 707-467-2836.
Hodges returns to the coast
Symphony of the Redwoods Opus Chamber Music Concert Series presents pianist Frederick Hodges on Sunday, Jan. 19, 3 p.m., Preston Hall, 44867 Main St., Mendocino. Hodges will present a program featuring several of his virtuosic piano transcriptions of Gershwin Overtures. These magnificent compositions were discovered by Hodges at the Library of Congress and contain both the beautiful lyrical songs from each show but also a wealth of previously unknown instrumental music that confirms Gershwin’s genius. Sherry Glaser returns to the Mendocino Theatre Company stage
Sherry Glaser returns to the Mendocino Theatre Company with her new show “Sherry Glaser’s Greatest Hits … The Mendo Years, 1993-2018,” a jam-packed theatrical retrospective of her solo works including “Family Secrets,” “Oh My Goddess,” “Taking the High Road” and “The Adventures of Super Activist Mother.
