16th Annual Valentine Tea benefits Books for Babies

Local Delta Kappa Gamma ladies help start families on the road to reading

-

A Valentine Tea to benefit Books for Babies and Kits for Kindergarten will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Hall, 620 Redwood Ave., Fort Bragg, on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. This is the 16th annual tea sponsored by the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International.

The Victorian High Tea will include scones and lemon curd, fruit salad, and a variety of sandwiches and cookies.

Reading to children at a young age instills a love of reading and helps them to become better readers. To educate parents about the importance of reading to children, the ladies of Delta Kappa Gamma began the Books for Babies program. Since 2000, they have presented over 3,000 copies of the classic “Good Night Moon” to new mothers at Mendocino Coast District Hospital.

In 2009, Delta Kappa Gamma expanded its early literacy endeavors to include Kits for Kindergarten. In the fall, Delta Kappa Gamma presents kindergarten students on the Mendocino Coast with materials to help them do their homework. The kits include primary pencils, crayons, scissors, markers, and a handwriting tablet.

Enjoy an afternoon tea and help children be better at reading and writing by joining Delta Kappa Gamma for their annual Valentine Tea.

Tickets will be available at the door or can be reserved by calling 707-9640491.
