Community Notes
Greenwood School Speed Sign Removal
At the town meeting, it was announced by Lacey Kou, the preschool headteacher, that Caltrans is planning on taking down the 25 MPH signs near the Greenwood School as well as scraping the highway clear of “SLOW SCHOOL” (see photo). Here is an update from Anica Williams, who called Caltrans to get more information: “I spoke to Deb Meredith (707-445-6379) in the Eureka
office and she confirmed that, yes, the signs are slated to come down because the school speed limit is to protect students who are walking to and from school, not students in the parking area as they are loading and unloading, and since preschool kids don’t walk to school, we don’t need them (!?). I also asked her about putting up a sign for a playground instead and her, please contact Deb at the above number. You can also contact the CHP at (707) 467-4420. FROM YOUR ELK EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE » A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to all the donors for their very generous contributions toward the Greenwood Community Center’s Backup Generator Project. Since the Town Meeting, the community has raised another $11,910 from thirteen donors. Add that to the $22,500 raised late last year and we’re at a grand total of $34,410!! We’re 76 percent of the way there and just need to raise another $10,590 so we can schedule the installation. Thanks again to everyone who contributed and don’t forget those donations are tax-deductible. Your donation receipts will be coming in the mail soon. If you haven’t already donated, please consider helping our community prepare for the next PG&E PSPS or other emergency power outage. Send your donations to the Greenwood Community Center at P.O. Box 183, Elk, CA 95432, and put ‘Generator Fund’ in the memo line. Thanks again!
