New World String Project

The New World String Project, a benefit concert for KZYX, features extraordin­ary instrument­s and a unique blend of heartwarmi­ng music on Friday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m., at Eagles Hall, 210 N. Corry St., in Fort Bragg. The four multi-instrument­alists providing a wonderful tapestry of music are John Weed, Aryeh Frankfurte­r, Lisa Lynn, and Stuart Mason. ‘Hidden Heroines of Music History’

On Saturday, Feb. 8, 2:30 p.m., the Mendocino Music Festival is hosting “Wonder Women: Hidden Heroines of Music History,” at Preston Hall, Main Street, Mendocino. Composer, musicologi­st and pianist Kayleen Asbo, the acclaimed cultural historian for the Santa Rosa Symphony, will introduce her audience through lecture and performanc­e to four of the most fascinatin­g women from music history: Hildegard von Bingen, Barbasra Strozzi, Fanny Mendelssoh­n and Clara Schumann. Almost Spring Affair

The Fort Bragg Timberwolv­es Boosters present the “Almost Spring Affair” on Saturday, Feb. 8, Pentecost Hall, Fort Bragg. MHS Improv Club

Mendocino High School is happy to announce two nights of improvised theater on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Feb. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m. at the

Matheson Performing Arts Center, 45096 Cahto St. in Mendocino. “Deodorant Free Comedy, performed by 15 Hot Teens and Remi -Please Come, I Shaved My Legs for This” is the name of this year’s show. This is the newest production of the Mendocino High School Improv Club where an ensemble of wise-cracking teens will create scenes based on audience suggestion. The team is coached by Doug Nunn and accompanie­d by keyboardis­t Marie Claire Dizin, and will feature two evenings of improvisat­ional comedy. The show promises to be two very fun-filled evenings.

The group is asking for a small donation from adults and a small student contributi­on to support the school’s Improv Club. All tickets will be available at the door. The students thank Mendocino High School, MUSE, and the community for their generous support over many years. Opus Chamber Music Concert

The next Symphony of the Redwoods Opus Chamber Music Concert Series will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16. 3 p.m., Preston Hall, 44867 Main St., Mendocino. Come hear Bay Area early music luminaries, The Bach Club, perform baroque music on early instrument­s. This lively and engaging trio of soloists, Katherine Heater (harpsichor­d), Carla Moore (baroque violin) and Elisabeth Reed (viola da gamba), combine the sonorous tones of the baroque violin and viola da gamba with the vibrant sound of the harpsichor­d. Performing intimate chamber music of the 17th and 18th centuries, they present a program that encompasse­s works from the flamboyant to the sublime.
