Strike Team assigned to southern fires
Firefighters from Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department recently returned from an out of county strike team assignment in Los Angeles, Riverside, Kern and Santa Cruz counties. The conditions at the fire were rugged and challenging with temperatures over 100 degrees and steep terrain.
To qualify as a strike team member, firefighters must take an extensive array of classes and attend rigorous training. They must also be willing to deploy on short notice and commit to up to two weeks at the fire site.
The fire department will be reimbursed by the state for the use of the engine, and the firefighters will be paid for their efforts — but a major reward is continuing the long tradition of mutual aid to fellow firefighters and communities that would come to the aid of Mendocino, if disaster ever struck here.
Our firefighters are doing Mendocino proud.
