Artists’ Collective (Elk)

Sondra Sula is showing all new work at the Artists Collective in Elk in September with a show entitled: Art in the Time of COVID. Her “Little Souls” are small, framed found-object assemblages created in an intuitive manner.

“When I make a piece, I believe the completed art will beckon someone’s soul, and that person will eventually find it. During the creative process I just ‘know’ when an object or its placement is right or wrong. I rely heavily on this intuitive sense, this spiritual connection to The Flow. I thought I would be wildly creative during shelter-in-place, but both my in-person and remote jobs actually increased in hours, and I found I had even less time to devote to artistic pursuits. When I did finally begin to create art for this show, it was as if a dam had broken and released a slew of pent up ideas.”

Sula has a BFA in Painting and Photography and has been represented by galleries in Chicago, Santa Fe and here on the northern California coast. She is also the author of “Meditations on Mendocino” and other books that can be found at the Fort Bragg Library or online.

Artists’ Collective (Elk) is located at 6031 S. Highway 1, Elk. They are open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 707877-1128 or visit them at artists collective.net.

Artists Co-op of Mendocino

“Nature Illuminated, New Work by Sharon Garner” is featured in September at the Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino. Sharon’s newest photographs thrill as they display new vistas and experimental techniques, delighting our eyes. Technically, the MacKerricher Headlands take on a painterly presence with the use of “In Camera Motion” which slows shutter speed allowing flowing colors and shapes to enhance the Seascape. Topically, Sand Hill Cranes unfurl their wings, in mating dances of love’s attraction. In another photo, a boat in the Burano Sea, bounces in waves of Italian colors.

Her beloved Flower Portraits, always breathtaking in Sharon’s repertoire, show in a triptych of Star Flowers. Sharon seeks personality and essence as her photographic works capture ephemeral moments in Nature, her endless source of inspiration. She shares these visions through Oct. 5.

The Artists’ Co-op of Mendocino, a traditional and contemporary fine arts gallery since 1988, exhibits art in a broad spectrum of media and content by more than 16 local member and guest artists. The Gallery is open Saturday through Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 707-937-2217 or visit artcoopmendocino.com. Artists Co-op of Mendocino is located at 10400 Kasten St., Mendocino.

Highlight Gallery of Mendocino

Highlight Gallery will be exhibiting coastal resident Paul Brewer’s latest wildlife and nature photography during the month of September. The result is unparalleled archival quality and superior durability that does not require protective glass. Of course there will be no reception but the gallery is open every day, noon to 5 p.m. See his latest pieces at www. thehighlightgallery.com. Highlight Gallery is located at 45094 Main St., Mendocino. For more information, call 707-937-3132.
