Lynda Sue Aubrey, 68, died Monday, August 31, 2020 following a long battle with cancer. Born in Washington DC in 1952, the daughter of Leland Kenneth Aubrey and Charlotte (Pape) Aubrey Walling, she spent her childhood in various towns throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvan­ia before graduating from James Wood High School in Winchester, VA in 1970. She attended Lord Fairfax Community College. She moved to the Mendocino coast in 1986 and resided in the town of Elk until her death.

Lynda touched many lives as a teacher, from 1986 to 2016, first at the Greenwood School and later at the Albion School. She also worked as an innkeeper in Elk, first at The Griffin House and later at the Elk Cove Inn.

Lynda was a life-long activist fighting for women’s rights, lesbian and gay rights, and environmen­tal causes, including participat­ing in a tree-sit during the Enchanted Meadow protests. Lynda was passionate about live music, dancing, books, and especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Lynda is survived by her son Aarron Willingham, daugher-in-law Karen Lariosa-Willingham, and grandson Arnold Willingham of Mountain View, CA; son Sabin Willingham, daughter-in-law Meghan McGinty, and grandson Rowan Willingham of San Mateo, CA; former husband Stephen Willingham of Glengary, WV; sisters Karen Harris of Rockingham, VA, Bonnie Callahan of Winchester, VA, and Joyce Grabush of Westminste­r, MD. Her daughter, Rebekkah Willingham, preceded her in death.

Due to the coronaviru­s pandemic, a memorial service will be planned for a future date TBD.
