New orthopedic surgeon joins team at hospital
As part of Adventist Health — Mendocino Coast’s efforts to bring access to specialty care closer to home, Dr. Paul Charpentier, an orthopedic surgeon, is now welcoming patients in Fort Bragg.
Charpentier said he is excited to provide care to residents on the coast, so they don’t have to travel far to access orthopedic care.
Born and raised in Mendocino County, Charpentier said even before he decided to specialize in orthopedics, he always knew he would be back someday to serve his community. In 2018, he came back to fulfill that promise.
“My wife and I both grew up here and we always dreamed of raising our family here. My small-town upbringing is a big part of who I am today and why I wanted to become a physician. And I would love my children to experience the same,” he said.
Charpentier has a passion for helping people get back to moving with less pain and he believes that learning and leveraging his colleagues’ knowledge and talents helps him provide better care.
“I’m a perpetual student and believe that by working with my colleagues we can learn from each other. Leveraging others’ skills and talents helps me to provide better outcomes for every patient. I am honored and humbled each time a person and their family members place themselves in my care.”
Adventist Health Mendocino Coast president, Judy Leach, commented on what this will mean for patients.
“Dr. Charpentier is committed to serving the residents of the coast by bringing care close to home. He brings tremendous expertise with minimally invasive hip and knee replacement along with exceptional skills in treating patients with shoulder pain,” she wrote. “For years, patients have had to make the drive over the mountain to get consistent orthopedic care, but thanks to Charpentier, quality care is now available on the coast as he coordinates the care process with patients and their families.”
Charpentier earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University, completed a residency at Michigan State University, followed by a Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University, specializing in adult reconstruction and arthroplasty.
When he is not busy caring for his patients, Charpentier enjoys spending time with his wife, Kelsey and their three children, woodworking, beekeeping, fly fishing and being outdoors.
Charpentier is now accepting new patients at 721 River Drive, Suite B in Fort Bragg. To schedule an appointment, please call (707) 964-6910. To learn more, about Dr. Charpentier, visit AdventistHealth. org/Dr-Charpentier.
