The Santas on Franklin Trump’s actions are offensive

-

EDITOR: ‘ Twas the month before Christmas and some shops in the town were sad, empty and bare.

An army of vintage, shimmering Santas marched in to show that they care.

With the sight of so many Santas standing right there, grown-ups and children shrieked in delight.

Selfies, family, friends photos and videos were made both day and night.

Red and white plastic, lighted, blow molds came in all sizes, shapes and colors as they huddled at 330 North Franklin Street to bring a rosy glow.

But now, Christmastime is over and the New Year shows great promise, so now it is time to go.

On January 2 they will disappear and head home to rest until December 2021 rolls around for them to again gather.

In hopes of bringing another holiday season to Fort Bragg of happiness and laughter.

EDITOR: Like so many, I keep believing that Trump cannot be any more offensive and shameful. And then he is. I’m talking about his pardons of the Blackwater killers.

A pardon is supposed to be a tool of justice. Pardoning these killers is the celebration of the crimes of war criminals. These pardons reinforce the commission of criminal acts, including murder, where Trump misidentifies the perpetrators as heroes. It is the workings of a sick mind to have granted these pardons.

Civilized societies do not reward murderers, most especially of children.

Pardons are supposed to reverse wrongs. The men convicted of these murders were not wrongfully convicted. The FBI, Justice Department and American lawyers, judges and judicial system spent years standing up for the human rights, and the human dignity, of the 17 men, women and children who were killed, and the 24 more who were wounded. In one swift action, it was as if Trump spat on them all.

He has lowered our nation into a cesspool of murderers and thugs doing whatever they want to do with impunity; simply because they have the power. If you could dive to the bottom of the proverbial barrel, you still wouldn’t be deep enough to find Donald Trump.
