Staff at Sherwood Oaks get vaccinated
Facility suffered COVID outbreak in August
FORT BRAGG » Staff from Adventist Health Mendocino Coast spent part of Dec. 31 and Jan. 4 at Sherwood Oaks Health Center, where they provided vaccinations for a total of 58 staff members.
Staff at Sherwood Oaks have been hard at work on the front lines caring for those at their facility, working to keep them safe and provide optimal care. The nursing facility was the first in the county to have a COVID-19 outbreak, in August 2020. Eight residents died of COVID-19 or of complications caused by the virus.
Kelly Hendrix, Inpatient Director, was on- site administering vaccines to Sherwood Oaks staff.
“The welcoming I received and gratitude from staff was wonderful, and I was so fortunate to be able to bring them the vaccine. We really are a small community here and we want to take care of each other.” Hendrix said.
“The staff was incredibly thankful to be provided the vaccine as they are part of a critical, high-risk population and are the next group in line to receive these as part of the guidelines to be vaccinated,” said a press release from the hospital. “As they work to keep residents safe on the front lines, their team is a critical piece to the puzzle in helping to keep our community safe.”
“What a tremendous relief that was felt when Adventist Health delivered 58 doses of COVID vaccine for Sherwood Oak’s employees,” said Dr. John Cottle, the Medical Director at Sherwood Oaks. “It couldn’t have come at a better time. We are deeply grateful for this and previous collaboration, providing the best health care possible not just for Adventist’s own facilities, but for our entire community.”
The partnership between the community, Adventist Health and the resources provided brings us one step closer to seeing an end to the pandemic and saving lives, said a representative from Adventist Health.
