MENDOCINO » On Jan. 14, Mendocino Volunteer firefighters received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine along with other, local first responder agencies.

The MVFD said it would like to give special recognition to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast for facilitating the vaccine distribution and Davey Beak who serves as the Mendocino County Fire Chiefs Association EMS liaison, Chief of Comptche Fire Department, and AHMC Medical Transport Services Manager for coordinating this effort.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an indelible strain on healthcare workers everywhere, and as frontline emergency responders, Mendocino Fire has not been immune to the difficulties, dangers, and frankly the unknown as we have reacted to this disease,” said MVFD Capt. Tyler Grinberg in a press release on behalf of the department. “We have not faced hardships on the level of other EMS agencies, but feel a deep-rooted connection to our brothers and sisters who have faced unfathomable hardship.”

Firefighters were all smiles and several said they were “pleasantly surprised” with how smooth the operation was.

“Not painful at all!” Said one firefighter.

With the steadily increasing rollout of the vaccine, Mendocino Fire would like to encourage everyone to continue following county health ordinances and show appreciation to other frontline workers who have worked tirelessly to help keep our communities running.
