$200 is a bargain in Little River

- Larry Miller

Let me, first of all, get things set right: The Little River Golf Course “punch card” goes for $200 and is good for 10 nine-hole rounds. Last week’s Notes offered the punch card for $200, buying 20 nine-hole rounds. Not right. Still a bargain.

The 10 nine-hole punch card saves the buyer $100, compared to paying green-fees for the ten nine-hole rounds at $30 per nine-holes. Also clarifying: Golfers who are already members would have received billing notification in the mail.

It is not necessary for existing members to check in with the Pro Shop, as was erroneously written in last week’s column.

Just send in your renewal fee, swing hard and keep your head down. Golfers who are wishing to be new members can call into the Pro Shop for pricing or for answers to any questions. Little River Inn Golf Course green fees are $30 per nine holes or $40 for 18 holes walking.

Just for comparison, Ukiah Valley Golf Course green fees are $18 for nine and $26 for 18 — without a cart. On weekends and holidays, the fees are $34 for 18 holes.

Moving on down to Sea Ranch, the green fees are $72 per 18-hole round Mondays through Thursdays. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the fees are $82 for the 18. Further south, you can play golf at Windsor for $47 Monday through Thursday, $52 for Friday and $62 for the weekend.

If you’ve won a couple of Stableford or Skin games, you might want to head on down to Florida, where you can become a member of the Mar-A Lago Golf Club for $200,000 with an annual renewal cost of $14,000. You can also rent a comfortable bed for an overnight stay for a mere $2,000.

(What do ya think, Dave Hautala, are you in? You and me? Who else?)

If Mar-A-Lago’s not a go, you can play a round at the Old-Head course in County Cork, Ireland, for a mere $400. If Ireland is too far to travel, drive or fly to Las Vegas, Nev. That’s where you can play the Shadow Creek course for $500. Or jump on a plane and fly down-under to Australia’s Royal Melbourne and play 18 for the same $500. On your return from Australia, on the way home, stop off at Pebble Beach, where you can play 18 for just $475.

As golfers, we all have the occasional best or first. Could be a holein-one, lowest score, the most birdies. Lots of opportunities for a first or best.

Chuck Allegrini, last week, for the first time in his long golf career on the famed Little River Course, had 11 consecutive up and downs. Another way to put that is 11-in-a-row one-putts. This effort netted Chuck a 78 for the round. Congrats Chuck. So, what’s next?
