MENDOCINO >> The Mendocino Unified School District announced in a letter to K-8 parents, Feb. 28, that it would discuss reopening schools at the March 11 school board meeting.

In this proposed plan, TK through second-grade students would return March 29, and third through sixthgrade students would return April 5. The plan is subject to change depending on the board’s discussion and potential changes in the COVID-19 guidance at the local, state and federal level.

“Mendocino K8 School is proposing to run an a.m./ p.m. schedule that would bring students to campus four days a week,” the letter stated. “In this plan students at each grade level will be split into two groups, A & B. Group A will attend in the morning and Group B will attend in the afternoon. Students will have asynchronous work during the time they are not in-person. On Wednesdays, instruction will be delivered via Zoom and asynchronous work.”

Fort Bragg Unified School District recently opened on the same schedule.

“Due to the necessity of running both an in-person and a distance learning program, we are working on restructuring where needed and dedicating resources based on your survey information,” the letter stated. It also warned that there is a chance students’ teachers may change.

An informational meeting for parents was scheduled for March 2 and included information about school guidance and health orders, survey data, reopening options that were considered and the district’s next steps. For more information about that meeting, visit mendocinousd.org.

Additionally, MUSD is seeking a parent of a TK-3 student to be on the School Site Council. The School Site Council meets at 3:30 p.m. every fourth Monday of the month, excepting December through February. For more information, email khumrichouse@mcn. org.
