Community Notes: Get yer books here!

Mendocino County Bookmobile will here Thursday, March 18 at 1:15 p.m., in the Greenwood State Beach parking lot. With the pandemic, I highly recommend ordering your books online from the county library system and having them delivered to you via the bookmobile. Currently, no one is allowed on board but Dave and Hunter always have an ample selection of newly released books and films on the portable tables they set up outside. Masks and distancing are required. Be sure to pick up a feedback form while you are there to tell Mendocino County Library how invaluable the bookmobile is to our community. As its webpage says, “the bookmobile creates community wherever it goes!”

MUSD to bring students back into classrooms

Last Thursday night, the Mendocino Unified School Board voted to reopen MUSD classrooms to in-person learning, in a staggered approach. Grades TK-2 will go first, the week of March 29, followed by grades 3-6 the week of April 5. Grades 7-12 will return the week of April 19. All schools will follow social distancing and hygiene practices, require facial coverings, and have rapid COVID testing available, among other safety measures.

The K-8 will bring students on campus four days a week, while the high school, which is limited by a more complex schedule, will bring students on campus one day a week to supplement distance learning. Both schools will divide the students into two groups to allow for social distancing, with morning and afternoon groups at the K8 and Thursday and Friday groups at the high school. Currently, about 80 percent of district students appear to want to take advantage of in-person learning. For those who opt not to attend, there will continue to be full remote learning options. The Greenwood Preschool cannot reopen until they are able to find a second teacher. The position is still open — see the district website for details.

Queenie’s Roadhouse Cafe to reopen

With Mendocino County now in the Red Tier, and with Queenie and her crew vaccinated, Queenie is anticipating returning for her 20th season around April Fool’s Day. And that’s no joke!

Greenwood Civic Club Rummage Sale is postponed

According to an email from Sarah Penrod of the Greenwood Civic Club, after much consideration, the Club decided to postpone the annual rummage sale due to CDPH guidelines. The event, which is usually held at the beginning of April, will hopefully be rescheduled later this year in hopes that a safe and successful event can be held. (Fingers crossed.)
