Annual Little River Men’s Club Abalone Golf Tournament

The 2021 Annual Little River Men’s Club Abalone Golf Tournament was wet…. and dry. Fifteen fiveman teams, seventyfive players, showed up for the twoday event, Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th of September with a practice round on Friday the 17th. The predicted rain for Saturday came. All teams began Saturday morning with a shotgun start. Meaning every team was assigned a starting hole and at the sound of the shotgun began their round. Drizzly rain also started from the start and continued the whole 18 holes sometimes falling harder occasionally stopping. At rounds end the common exclamation was, “I’m soaked.

I’m going home to a warm shower.”

Mushing through and placing first on the beginning day was team S. Goeken, Taylor, Gausemal, Pickel, and Johansen. Last names only are given as that’s how they were presented on the leader board. In the tournament format, the three best scores on each hole were recorded handicaps in play. This team placed first with 194 strokes. Team Woodruff, Carr,

Brunton, Campbell, and Brown with 197 strokes placed 2nd. Third place was captured by team Hanover, Roe, M. Harrick, Macy, and Comer. Closest to the pin on hole two was Carmichael, on hole seven Roe, on nine Flynn, and on sixteen G. Pardini. The low net for Saturday was Shellman scoring a 66 with Delore getting a 65-low net on Sunday. Low Gross for both days was S. Goeken shooting a 72 and a 75.

Sunday’s weather was great mostly blue sky. Golfers even pulled off their jackets and played bare-armed. The greens were back to normal and what was not normal was for the team who places first on the first day of the tournament to win the whole thing. But they did. Rare. Hardly ever happens. Team S. Goeken, Taylor, Gausemal, Pickel, and Johansen shot another 194 for a two-day 388 and are the 2021 Ab
