Cue tips: Squeals of delight

Rack ’em up!

The Pool League venues have two teams representing them in the first game of the season, and those two home teams play each other. The Welcome Inn boasts both a women’s team and a men’s team. The men’s team is known as Team # 1. Team # 2, the women’s team, is known as “Charla’s Angels.” Huh? Plus, they have team shirts (the men have none) that resemble, at least to some degree, that same outline of “Charlie’s Angels” on T.V. Are they tough? Yes! Are they skilled? Yes! Team # 1 has skills and feels they are sortakinda tough too, but still, no team shirts for the boys. At the first game of the season, Welcome Inn Team # 2 likes to be dressed to the nines, and they were. They also arrived bearing gifts, well, it was food, and the men’s team wilted with the aroma but were grateful as they casually devoured the fare. Although Team # 2 played well, Team # 1, full of good grub, nevertheless prevailed. The highlight of the night, though, was the first game played by both Welcome Inn teams for the Spring Season of Fort Bragg Pool League. Omie Bherns playing for Captain Linda Long’s Team #2 of Welcome Inn came to the table in a new hairdo with some “pony” in it, and Omie looked cool in boots and such. Ian Rebesch playing for

Captain Ed Smith and Team # 1 looked pretty cool. Ian blasted out a break and a near-table runout but ended with a poor roll. He was behind the only ball blocking his shot on the 8-ball; Ian had to kick up-table and back to hit the 8-ball. He did so, but he did not make it. Omie stepped to the table. Was she cereal? Yep. Did she play well? Yep. Did she run out of the table and win? Yep. It was a click click click, as balls dropped, and then, a last click as the 8-ball dropped in the Pocket, and Omie had won the first match. Was there some pandemonium? No, not really, but squeals of delight and jumping in the air were happening as the women’s team celebrated a big win and morale booster. Why, you may ask? Well, when your team wins the very first game of League play, it sets the tone, Baby, that is why. Welcome Inn’s Team # 2 “Charla’s Angels,” were jubilant, and rightly so.
