Spring fishin’ is here, already

-

You know, it seems like many folks have lost their sense of humor. All the Covid stuff has gotten people feeling all cranky. I hope this joke makes you laugh..

The fishing season hasn’t opened yet, and a fisherman who doesn’t even have a license, is casting for trout as a stranger approaches and asks,

“Any luck?”

“Heck yes, this is a wonderful spot. I took 10 out of this stream yesterday” he boasts.

“Is that so?”

“By the way, do you know who I am?” asks the stranger.

“Nope.”

“Well, meet the new game warden.”

“Oh,” gulped the fisherman…“Well, do you know who I am?”

“Nope,” said the game warden.

“Meet the biggest liar in the state.”

CLEAR LAKE — I know of some very good anglers that are having a difficult time hooking into bass right now. Fishin’ on Clear Lake is still very slow. Even fishermen that have been trying their luck with live bait (minnows), are reporting that you have to cover a lot of water to find bass that willing to bite. With the lake water temperature still running in the mid to upper 40’s the bass are shivering. They are not willing to use much energy to chaise after lures and bait.

Once the water temperature kicks up just another 4-6 degrees the bass will start to go into their pre-spawn mode. With the beautiful spring like weather we are having, it is a matter of just a few days before the #5 rated bass fishery in the United States will get it goin’ on! Matter-in-fact, by the time you read this, the bass fishin’ could already be coming to life……….

BLUE LAKES — The trout fishin’ on the upper Blue Lake has been fair. Both trollers and the gang on the shore have been catching some nice trout. The Upper Blue Lake has not received a trout plant for a few weeks. And, currently there is not any trout plants scheduled. The word on the dock is that Blue Lakes will probably get more than it’s fair share of trout stocks, due to so many lakes are at such low water levels.

MILL CREEK POND — The upper Mill Creek Pond is currently being stocked with Steelhead Trout by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The plants are to continue pretty much every other week through the spring. Several anglers have been hooking into some really nice ones early in the morning fly fishing. The same five fish limit applies. Go Get ‘em.

LAKE PILLSBURY — The big news regarding Lake Pillsbury is that the roads going in are in very bad shape. The word is that Lake County will be grading their road within the next week or so. The only fishing report I have received is that there has been some shore fishermen that have been catching trout off the bottom

using, night crawlers. The concern is that the rains we had earlier this week, will slow up the bite. There are no bass being caught right now. Oh, by-the-way, the lake is FULL !!!!!

Thanks for reading, remember to keep it reel. Don = 4REEL Fishin’
