Cue Tips: A fun night for everyone

- Rack ‘em up! 'Tall Mike' Bohanon

Milano Hotel and Bar really got into their support of Fort Bragg Pool League this week. How? Well, first, Captain Shaleen Chorley and the Milano Team # 2 were polite to the opposing team and respectful even when both teams were making dreadful mistakes. Welcome Inn Team # 1 Captain Ed Smith and Shaleen solved those problems without a cross word uttered or a raised voice. Hurray for the Captains and the League members of both teams. They made Fort Bragg Pool League look pretty good with exemplary conduct. It was a fun night for everyone. Oh, and the next thing Milano Hotel and Bar did? They allowed their bartender Pearl Figuero to join and play for Team # 2.

The Welcome Inn Saturday afternoon tournament was a hit on the 6th of March with 17 players. Maybe because of the crowd size, people that had declined to play then decided to join in the fun. Two tables for 3 hours were played continuously, and there was stiff competition on hand. Without a doubt, some of the very best players in our area came to play. During the final match, John Borba was bumped by the jostling crowd and missed his shot near the end of the match. John didn’t ask to re-shoot. He didn’t give the person that ruined his play a glance, and he turned the table over to his opponent. The game should have been replayed and, had John protested, would have been. His opponent didn’t think about it and continued playing that game to win. From now on, games will restart if a game-altering bump occurs during the Saturday Tournaments.

CUE TIP » Have you ever played a ball to a pocket, missed, and then that ball travels the length of the table back nearly to where it was, to begin with? Well, gee, maybe you shot that ball a bit too hard? The harder you play a ball, the higher chance of a miss. Slow balls drop in, even if a bit off-center. Simply put, soft plays seldom rattle a pocket. Instead, they drop in. High-speed shots, especially off-center, rattle in the pocket and very often miss. Contact me at mcbohanon@gmail.com.
