FBHS Boys Frosh/Soph Track and Field team steamrolle­rs competitio­n at CMS Championsh­ip

FORT BRAGG, CA >> On May 6, the Fort Bragg High School Boys Frosh/Soph Track and Field team ended their season, claiming the pennant at the Central Mountain Championsh­ip meet held at Lower Lake. The team racked up a total of 276 points compared to Cloverdale in second place with 116 points.

Three sophomores, Alex Nicholson, Christophe­r Island, and Logan Walters, each scored 34 points at the meet. Nicholson took second and third place in the 100 and 200 meters in the shot put. Island, a long-distance runner, took first place in the 1600 and 3200 meters. Walters took first place in the 400 meters and the long jump and came in third in the triple jump.

Sophomore Sergio Lopez-Calleja took first place in the pole vault with a personal best of 10’6”, also the top sophomore record. Sophomore Orion Hikes took first place in the triple jump with a personal best of 37’2.5 . He came in eighth place in the long jump. Freshman Andrew Cudney took third place in the pole vault, fifth in the 100 meters, and tenth in the 200 meters.

The throwing team posted personal bests throughout the season. Sophomore Gabriel Valenzuela took second place in the 10 lb. shot put, and sophomore Alex Nicholson took third place. Both broke the frosh/soph team record. Freshman Caden Ferris took twelfth place and continues to be a reliable scorer.

Freshman Ash Hebden took fourth place in the 110 meters with a personal best of 21.31, fifth place in the long jump with a personal best of 16’1 , and second place in the triple jump with a personal best of 35’7 . Sophomore Brenden Stonebarge­r took second place in the 110 hurdles with a personal best of 20.99 and first place in the 300 hurdles with a personal best of 51.41. Coming in third in the 300 hurdles was freshman Estevan Diaz-Rodriguez with a personal best of 57.05.

All three relay teams took first place. In the 4×1 relay were sophomores Nathan Cox, Orion Hikes, Alex Nicholson, and freshman Andrew Cudney. In the 4×4 relay were sophomores Logan Walters, Nolan Garcia, Tim Pankoke, and freshman Estevan Diaz-Rodriguez. In the 4×8 relay were sophomore Sergio Lopez-Calleja and freshmen Mian Ahmad, Angel Tun, and Caden Ferris.
