Cline, Mulheren, Norvell win seats
Board of Supervisors election results finalized
With Madeline Cline maintaining her substantial lead in the race for 1st District Mendocino County Supervisor once the results of the March 5 Election were finalized this week, the 26-year-old said she will spend the next several months building on the momentum and relationships she established during her campaign.
“I'm grateful to this community for their support and all those who made this victory possible,” said Cline, adding that there was still plenty of time, and work to be done, before she takes over the seat currently held by Supervisor Glenn McGourty.
“There are nine months before I am sworn in as Supervisor, and I plan to continue the conversations we started on the campaign trail so that we are ready on Day One to begin solving the tough issues facing our county.”
When asked Friday if Cline was the youngest person to be elected as a Mendocino County Supervisor, Registrar of Voters Katrina Bartolomie said she could not immediately confirm if that were true, but that Cline was certainly the youngest person to be elected supervisor during her 19-year tenure at the Mendocino County Elections Office.
According to the “Final Official Results” posted by the Elections Office on March 27, Cline received 2,689 votes for 57.36 percent, meaning she met the “50-percent plus one vote” threshold for not requiring a runoff election. Her closest competitor, Adam Gaska, earned 1,157 votes (24.68 percent), Trevor Mockel earned 437 votes (9.32 percent) and Carrie Shattuck earned 405 votes (8.64 percent).
Another race that was much closer, but will still not require a runoff, was the race between incumbent 2nd District Supervisor Maureen Mulheren and challenger Jacob Brown. According to the final numbers posted in that race, Mulheren won 1,699 votes for 51.77 percent, and Brown won 1,583 votes, or 48.23 percent.
When asked Friday to share some thoughts with her supporters and the rest of her constituents, Mulheren said she was “excited to build on the progress we've made together in addressing homelessness, growing our housing options, and bringing greater transparency to our local government. The community support means so much to me as we continue this journey towards a stronger, more vibrant community.”
In the race for the 4th District Supervisor seat currently held by Dan Gjerde, Bernie Norvell won 3,832 votes (80.84 percent), while Georgina Avila-Gorman won 908 votes (19.16 percent).
