Back from New Zealand

- Larry Miller

Arrived back from New Zealand on Saturday, March 30th. The flight is long and challenging. Sitting in one spot for fifteen hours is not a normal experience for the body. The body is saying, “Let me out of here. I gotta do something. I gotta move. Let's play some golf or something.” Of course, there are no golf options at 30,000 feet altitude, with the temperature at around -48 degrees Fahrenheit. The flight is overnight, so you have the luxury of trying to sleep. Now that I am home and reasonably caught up on my sleep, I have to reorient myself to get in the left door to drive my car and drive on the right side of the highway. Today is not tomorrow, and it is 2:Rees pm, not 10 am.

Before closing the door on New Zealand golf, let's have a look at a couple of the top-rated, marquee courses located on the South Island. Located 20 minutes from Queenstown, the Golf at Millbrook Resort was voted, for several years, the best golf resort in New Zealand. Millbrook hosts the New Zealand Open, and the Millbrook Resort is committed to creating a sustainable, carbon-neutral environment. The Millbrook course actually offers 36 holes of golf, tennis, and dining. Kind of like our own Little River Golf Course plus twenty-seven holes. Located in the Christchurch area, not far from my daughter's house, the Clearwater Golf Resort is considered another South Island marquee golf course. For thirteen consecutive years, the Clearwater Resort has hosted international professional golfing events.

Coming right up at the Little River Course is a Taco Tuesday golf event hosted by the Little River Women's Golf Club. Scheduled for April 9th, check in at 4: pm, tee off at 4:30. This is to be a nine-hole two-person alternate shot with a blind draw at the finish for a foursome team. Teams can be any gender mix: two ladies, two lads, or one of each. There is a $25.00 entry fee which gets you in the door, plus a taco dinner. See you on the course on Tuesday the ninth and remember that it will be Wednesday the 10th in New Zealand.
