This weekend’s Central Coast Section championship games:

- — DENNIS KNIGHT

OPEN DIVISION

Valley Christian vs. Palma, San Jose City College, 7 tonight. No. 1 seed Valley Christian ( 11- 1) is shooting for its second consecutive Open Division title against No. 6 seed Palma, the 2003 champion, which beat St. Francis in the semifinals. The Warriors’ only loss came against Sacramento’s Grant High. Dominique Hunsucker and Mike Ginther are a dangerous running combination, and quarterback Dante Perez has the ability to make big throws in the clutch. Palma ( 10-2) relies on the running game, with QB Jordan Casas and RB Matt Perkins both capable of carrying the load. The Chieftains will have their hands full against a defense that has allowed less than nine points per game.

LARGE SCHOOL DIVISION

San Benito vs. Oak Grove, San Jose City College, 7 p. m. Saturday. In a rematch of last year’s final, No. 2 seed San Benito ( 8-4) seeks to avenge its 24-20 loss to No. 1 seed Oak Grove ( 9- 2). The Eagles average 34 points per game, and 5- foot- 6 senior Jerid Ferranti, one of the top backs in the CCS, has run for 1,641 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. The Eagles’ defense has given up 12 points per game. Senior quarterback Karson Klauer, who is as dangerous running as he is throwing, helped the Haybalers turn their season around with an upset of Palma. San Benito’s defense is a hard- hitting crew.

MEDIUM SCHOOL DIVISION

Los Gatos vs. Palo Alto, Foothill College, 7 tonight. No. 1 seed Los Gatos is looking to win its first CCS title since 2002. The Wildcats ( 10-2) are battle- tested after surviving a 3-0 victory over St. Ignatius in the semifinals. Senior quarterback Danny Sullivan is one of the section’s top passers, averaging 193 yards per game and throwing for 23 touchdowns. His favorite target is junior WR David Martini ( 55 catches, 1,097 yards, nine TDs). Linebacker Carlos Alonso ( 146 tackles) leads a stingy Wildcats defense. Palo Alto ( 10-2) survived the loss of injured starting quarterback Nick Goodspeed with a strong defense and solid running game. The Vikings lost to the Wildcats 63-28 in the regular- season finale.

SMALL SCHOOL DIVISION

Seaside vs. Half Moon Bay, Foothill College, 7 p. m. Saturday. No. 1 seed Seaside ( 10-2) is still smarting after losing to Burlingame in last year’s final on a last- second hitch- and-go pass. Quarterback Jermaine Carter has thrown for 1,462 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 533 yards and eight scores. The Spartans’ defense has given up just 28 points in the past six games. Half Moon Bay’s dramatic turnaround is one of the best stories in the CCS. Three years after a winless season, the Cougars ( 10-2) are playing in their first title game and hope that the steady play of quarterback Nick Trautman and Mike Seaton ( two consecutive 100-yard rushing performances in the playoffs) will continue.
