THURSDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS

-

Panthers 3, Red Wings 1: Jaromir Jagr scored his 718th NHL goal, moving into fifth place on the career list, and added an assist for Florida. The 43-year-old Jagr passed Hall of Famer Phil Esposito with his first goal since March 1. Senators 6, Bruins 4: Bobby Ryan’s third-period goal snapped a tie and Ottawa moved within two points of Boston in the race for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa’s Andrew Hammond, making his fifth straight start, faced 35 shots and improved to 12-0-1 in his first 13 NHL starts, though his streak of consecutive games having allowed two goals or fewer ended. Canadiens 4, Hurricanes 0: Carey Price made 31 saves for his league-leading and career-best 39th win of the season, and also earned his eighth shutout for Montreal, which got goals from Dale Weise, Brendan Gallagher, David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty. Capitals 3, Wild 2: Alex Ovechkin scored two goals, Evgeny Kuznetsov had one more, and Braden Holtby stopped 28 of 30 shots as Washington won its third straight. Jets 2, Blues 1: Andrew Ladd scored the decisive shootout goal to lead Winnipeg. Stars 2, Penguins 1: Brett Ritchie and Jamie Benn scored 1:23 apart in the second period for Dallas, and Kari Lehtonen made 15 of his 31 saves in the third period to preserve his 30th win of the season. Flames 4, Flyers 1: Johnny Gaudreau scored his 20th goal and added two assists to lead Calgary. Gaudreau’s fourth three-point game of the season — against the team he grew up cheering for— moved the 5-foot-9 forward into the NHL rookie scoring lead with 56 points, one more than Nashville’s Filip Forsberg.

The Montreal Canadiens have forged a partnership agreement with the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

Barring any setback, Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen will return to the team’s lineup Friday night against the Colorado Avalanche.
