Many 49ers fans fantasized leading up to the NFL draft about how Jared Goff would look lining up under center for the Red & Gold.

It turns out the faithful might not have to wait long to see what the former Cal quarterback will look like lining up against the 49ers instead.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher hasn’t ruled out Goff, taken first overall in last week’s draft, starting in Week 1. Against the 49ers. On “Monday Night Football.”

And Goff hasn’t even participated in his first practice as a professional. That comes Friday when the Rams hold rookie orientation and minicamp for drafted players and undrafted free agents.

Fisher told the Times that Goff is “our franchise quarterback.”

At the moment, the quarterbacks on the Rams roster are Goff, Nick Foles, Sean Mannion and Case Keenum.

Rams general manager Les Snead and Fisher told the Times they were sold on Goff after they traveled to Berkeley to watch Goff work out before the draft and got a taste of his confidence. Goff was asked if he wanted to alter the workout schedule because of potential weather issues and he told them, “We’ve got a9 a.m. appointment and we’re sticking to it,” and added, “I hope it’s raining.”

Snead told the Times, “He was still throwing it. You come away going ‘Wow.’ You kind of like that.’ ”
