SAN JOSE — A male victim who showed up to the hospital with a fatal gunshot wound Wednesday night was apparently shot near a city park across town, authorities say.

San Jose police were alerted at 8:42 p.m. that a shooting victim was brought to Regional Medical Center, and died from his injuries a short time later.

Details about the victim, including his name and age, were not immediately released pending notification of his family.

A car with visible bullet holes was seen parked at the hospital, and is presumably the vehicle that transported the victim.

Police did not immediately release additional details about the killing, which marked the city’s 39th homicide of the year, a total that surpasses the 30 recorded in all of 2015.

A source familiar with the investigation told this newspaper that shots were reported in the vicinity of Dove Hill Park, which is located near Highway 101 and Yerba Buena Road and abuts an elementary school.

Detectives are investigating the case with the premise that the shooting occurred in that area, and residents said police were on scene for several hours.

Anyone with information about the case can contact SJPD homicide detectives at 408-277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947STOP or at svcrimestoppers.org.
