QThumbs up to I.B. and her husband for alerting the CHP about the carpool cheater on the ramp from Highway 87 to 101 by honking in the officer’s direction.

I have been van-pooling over 20 years and see cheaters all the time. We, too, will help out officers at the ramp to the Bay Bridge in San Francisco when they are present.

Cheaters are the worst, causing dangerous situations by darting in or pulling out of fast-moving lanes on a whim. CHP, heads up! Easy ticketing at the Bay Bridge carpool lanes!

Maria Hetherton Clayton AI. G. said she and husband were high-fiving each other after the CHP ticketed the carpool cheat, a driver who was also on his cellphone. But she also felt a little guilty and wondered if their actions would result in “bad karma.” QPuulllleeeease! They feel badly for pointing out a texting, swerving carpool cheat? Absolutely not. Yay! Love it when the bad guys get caught. Kathy Furtado Campbell ALove is in the eye of the beholder.

Area Road Yoda: Our story is similar to the one I.B. mentioned. My husband would pick me up in his truck in San Mateo, and we’d head home on 101 in the commute lane.

Being higher up in the truck, you could easily see into vehicles in front and back of us and notice all the solo drivers cheating in the commute lane.

We’d joke about it and always wished there was a cop around.

One day, a green Mazda Miata was behind us with a solo driver, obviously cheating. Lo and behold, there was a CHP car in the next lane who immediately saw the solo driver, pulled behind him and turned on his red lights. We were honking the horn and guffawing, finally seeing a cheater get their just desserts.

Linda Kahn San Jose ABut not everyone agrees. QIn response to the couple that honked to alert a CHP officer to cite a carpool cheater, I say shame on them. These two tattletales did not help anybody in any way; all they did was ruin another driver’s commute. The fact that they “high- fived” after having caused their fellow motorist to be ticketed shows they were motivated by little more than deviant schadenfreude.

The cop should have pulled them over for misusing their horn as there was no reasonable safety concern. Do not encourage this type of buffoonery, Gary.

Scott Mitchell Redwood City AAnd ... QTo I.B. and her husband, I call people like you snitches. ... Operating the horn because a solo driver is cheating in the carpool lane would most certainly be illegal.

There is no safety issue. ... Unless someone’s behavior interferes with your well-being, you should keep your nose the heck out of their business.

What you did was selfrighteous, self-centered and lame. And yes, you will now have bad karma. F. Mac, Mike Smith, Rudy Ray and a few others ABad

karma? I think not.
