THURSDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS
Rockies 6, Mariners 3: Mark Reynolds and Nolan Arenado homered to back Kyle Freeland, and Colorado stopped a three-game losing streak in a game that might have been costly for Seattle. Mariners shortstop Jean Segura was helped off the field after injuring his right ankle on a slide into second base in the fourth inning, and designated hitter Nelson Cruz was hit on the top of his left hand with a pitch from Freeland in the third. Cruz remained in the game but was lifted for pinch hitter Boog Powell in the fifth.
Brewers 2, Mets 1: Chase Anderson pitched seven shutout innings, and the Brewers benefited — temporarily, anyway— when a Milwaukee bat boy bumped into Mets infielder Wilmer Flores on a foul pop-up. The kooky play came in the fourth inning with the Brewers ahead 2-0 after they loaded the bases with one out. Eric Sogard lofted a pop-up, and Flores gave frantic chase along the railing of Milwaukee’s third base dugout. Abat boy carrying a metal stool tried to dodge him and slide past but nicked Flores’arm and the ball dropped. Umpires originally called Sogard out for interference but quickly huddled and reversed their ruling. Mets manager Terry Collins argued with crewchief Fieldin Culbreth and was ejected. Given a second chance, Sogard grounded into an inning-ending double play.“I guess you can say the ball never lies,” Sogard said.
Diamondbacks 3, Marlins 2: Zack Greinke allowed one earned run in seven innings to earn his seventh victory, and Arizona snapped Miami’s four-game winning streak. Nick Ahmed hit a two-run single in the eighth to put the Diamondbacks ahead..
Cardinals 2, Dodgers 0: Adam Wainwright hit a two-run homer and pitched six innings of four-hit ball as St. Louis gained a four-game split.
Orioles 7, Red Sox 5: Wade Miley allowed one run in seven innings, and Mark Trumbo hit the first of Baltimore’s four home runs off Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez.
Yankees 12, Blue Jays 2: CC Sabathia won his fourth consecutive start, Aaron Hicks had a career-high six RBIs and Gary Sanchez homered twice to lead New York over Toronto.
Twins 4, Angels 2: Jason Castro hit a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth to rally Minnesota past Los Angeles.
