Two killed in separate collisions

SAN JOSE » Police are investigat­ing a pair of crashes in San Jose on Feb. 23 that resulted in fatalities.

The first collision, an alleged hit-and-run, was reported about 12:10 p.m. at Park Avenue and Newhall Street. A vehicle traveling north on Park Avenue hit a man crossing the street, said OfficerGin­a Tepoorten of the San Jose Police Department.

The Santa Clara County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s Office identified the victimas Barrett Grabow, 24, of San Jose. He died of his injuries Monday, Tepoorten said.

Patrol officers on Saturday impounded a suspect vehicle. Later that day, TroyMoulto­n, 56, of San Jose turned himself in to police. He was booked into Santa Clara County jail on charges of hitand-run and driving with a suspended license, as well as a misdemeano­r warrant.

The second fatal crashwas reported about 6:30 p.m. on Pleasant Ridge Avenue near Avenue B, a block west of James Lick High School. Tepoorten said the driver of a maroon 1985 Ford Econoline van hit three parked vehicles. Hewas taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The medical examinerco­roner’s office identified the victimas FedericoOb­ieta, 51, of San Jose. Drugs are suspected as a factor in the collision.

Including the two crashes on Feb. 23, trafficfat­alities for the year now stand at nine, Tepoorten said.
