Rubberized asphalt resurfacing will help to ease noise on I-80

QI understand that they’re going to resurface Interstate 80 from Hercules to the Bay Bridge. I hope and pray that they will get rid of the noisy, terrible pavement that was put on there years ago and put on a topping that will be quieter then what it is now. The noise level from that rough payment is disturbing thousands of people throughout the Bay Area as well as wearing out car tires prematurely and should be gotten rid of ASAP. — Gary Byer, Richmond

AThere should be a big difference once the repaving is completed. The concrete will be replaced with rubberized asphalt which is very durable and quiet. Caltrans now uses rubberized material on almost all projects statewide.

QEnough is enough. Or so I thought until last Friday night, where I came upon yet another new car with its head- lights off. This one was particularly unsafe, as the sonew-it- didn’t-havelicense-plates gray Honda Civic or Accord was weaving back and forth in the number two lane at about 70 mph on Interstate 880 approaching Dixon Landing Road.

The reason for the weaving? Not just that her headlights were out and she couldn’t see the roadway. Oh, no, it’s because she had her interior lights on, doing makeup with her right hand while leaning over to look in the rear-view mirror, and at the same time talking on her cell phone with her left hand.

Other drivers were flashing their lights at her, and I saw one driver maneuver alongside her and motion to her that her lights were off. All to no effect.

She continued weaving and bobbing, exiting onto Highway 237. It made for some sad dashcam viewing in my video hall of shame. I did call 9-1-1 on this young woman and I hope she didn’t harm any- body with her reckless driving behavior.

We all see unsafe and aggressive drivers every day, but this takes the cake. For now. — Chris Verbil, Los Altos

AApplying makeup, yakking on her cell phone and headlights off — Hall of Shame indeed. We need something to make us happy.

QI want to give kudo’s to the CHP. The other day I saw three motor officers pull over several autos for carpool violations on Highway 4. I have not seen that in a long time. There are many, many single drivers in the carpool lane every morning. That slows the commute very badly. Can you give the CHP my thanks? — Tom Smith, Antioch

AFor you and zillions of others who feel the same way about cheaters jamming up our carpool lanes, I’m happy to do so.
