Two wanted men arrested by deputies after search
A team of deputies arrested two wanted men at a home in unincorporated Gilroy after a tense search Wednesday evening that led them to one of the suspects who was hiding in a hole covered with wood planks, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 5:30 p.m., members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team went to a property on Buena Vista Avenue near No Name Uno, a street that parallels Highway 101 north of the Gilroy Premium Outlets.
After surrounding the site, deputies arrested Gil- roy residents Mark Ashford, 43, and 36-year- old James Edward Trujillo, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Trujillo attempted to evade capture by hiding in a hole under a pile of wood debris,” reads an agency news release. “Fortunately, both suspects were arrested without incident or injury.”
Authorities say Ashford was wanted in connection with a high- speed car chase with sheriff’s depu- ties earlier in the week, and had arrest warrants issued for him encompassing alleged felony evasion, felony domestic violence, violating parole and driving on a suspended license. Trujillo was wanted for an unspecified probation violation.
Additionally, not long before he was arrested, deputies reported seeing Ashford driving a vehicle that was linked to an armed carjacking, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Gilroy and Morgan Hill police assisted in the arrests, and Santa Clara police dispatched a police dog to the enforcement.
