Motorcyclist killed, DUI suspect arrested after I-280 on-ramp collision
SAN JOSE » A 27-year-old Cupertino motorcyclist was killed Sunday evening and a second man was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence following a crash on the Parkmoor Avenue on-ramp to northbound Interstate 280, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 29-year-old man who was arrested was driving a black Cadillac in the middle lane of Parkmoor when he made a “late movement” into the on-ramp lane to northbound 280 just after 7 p.m., CHP Officer Ross Lee said. The Cadillac crossed the gore point — the double white lines separating the on-ramp from Parkmoor — and moved “directly in front of the motorcycle.”
The CHP said the motor- cyclist was traveling at a “high rate of speed” when he crashed into the back of the Cadillac.
San Jose Fire Department firefighters and Santa Clara sheriff’s deputies also were dispatched to the scene of the collision. The motorcyclist victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
