Whitaker unfit to serve as acting attorney general
It has become apparent that President Trump will stop at nothing to hinder any investigation of Russia, himself, his family or his campaign.
The firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions for no cause other than following Justice Department guidelines about recusing himself is bad. But replacing him with someone with his own conflicts of interest who openly discussed a plan for how to stop special counsel Robert Mueller on national media is an absolute abomination.
Matthew Whitaker did not get Senate approval for the post. He lacks experience and temperament. And, of course, he is unfit to serve based on the quid pro quo involved in his ascension to office.
Mueller’s investigation must be protected. We must know the facts in the case and decide what to do next. That may include impeachment. Personally, I think that is not the best strategy. But we must know the truth and go from there. — Michael Bierman, Santa Clara
